Westside resides within a 28-acre wilderness inside Tulsa’s city limits. Selser Schaefer Architects was tasked with transforming and bringing new life to this urban wilderness.
As an introduction to family camping, the Westside YMCA is an ideal setting as amenities abound from fishing and swimming to disc golf and ropes courses. Our Master Plan focuses on reinvigorating the space and encourages families to reconnect with nature through careful planning and placemaking. First, we entirely reworked the vehicular circulation of the site to separate pedestrians from cars and restored the center of the site to a green landscape tied together by the Great Lawn.
Westside is right next door to Turkey Mountain’s 600 acres of untamed wilderness. The design embraces this connection by maintaining and enhancing hiking and camping access from Turkey Mountain into the YMCA and vice-a-versa.
