Fueled by more than 1400 volunteers, Meals on Wheels provides nutritious meals, safety checks and friendly, caring contact to elderly and disabled home bound individuals — helping them to maintain independence, dignity and well-being. Delivering far more than just meals, their goal is to help create a community in which no one is left alone, hungry or isolated due to illness, disability, or impediment to daily living.
Inspired by their daily acts of kindness and service, Selser Schaefer Architects is excited to collaborate with Meals on Wheels on the design of their new headquarters. The organization has two major goals for this renovation project; increase daily meal production operations and promote community interaction.
The resulting design will completely transform a former retail store into a new production, packaging and distribution facility allowing the organization to increase its capacity from 300,000 to 1,000,000 meals per year.
