The 1921 Race Massacre destroyed the historic African-American business district that once stretched along Greenwood leaving thousands homeless, hundreds injured, and an unknown number killed.

Greenwood Rising

Greenwood Historic District

A group of federal, state, and local leaders have formed the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission. Their goal is to educate Oklahomans and Americans about the Race Massacre, remember its victims and survivors, and create an environment conducive to sustainable entrepreneurship and heritage tourism within the Greenwood District and North Tulsa.

This Commission in collaboration with Selser Schaefer Architects, exhibit designer Local Projects, and landscape architect Howell & Vancuren is creating a world-class tourist destination.
