A bold new idea focused on the past
Positioned at a historic entrance to the Greenwood District, the building acts as a gateway marking the corner of North Greenwood Avenue and East Archer Street. The patterned facade, never touching the ground and shaped to capture light from within, creates a rising effect. The pattern of randomized panels reflect individualism and together represent a larger fabric symbolic of the community. At night, the facade comes to life as an illuminated beacon seeking to inform and inspire both present and future generations.
Greenwood Rising will introduce an exhibit center and a re-imagined events venue. The centerpiece, a new Exhibit Hall, will become a key cultural destination capturing the story of the Greenwood District, historic Black Wall Street, and the tragic 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. The building itself will engage the street edge adding to the vibrance of this historic pedestrian-friendly district.
In synergy with the Greenwood Art Project installation, a Pathway to Hope, an interactive, educational pedestrian route meandering through the heart of the historic district will immerse visitors in the history of Greenwood.
