In the world of theater and music, collaboration cultivates creativity. Such was the case in planning the fine arts addition of Broken Arrow Public School’s South Intermediate High School. Selser Schaefer Architects and Perkins+Will, design architect, worked closely with the district to design a solution to spark the creative spirit of students and the community.
The new spaces recognize the specialized needs of the music department and include a band room complete with practice and ensemble rooms, and a separate orchestra room. Both offer outstanding acoustics and space for properly storing instruments. The choir gets its own home. The star of the addition may be the Black Box Theater – a performance stage and drama classroom that is literally a spacious black box, free of restraints to the creative process.
Planned completion: Fall 2012
