The Millennium Center’s mission is two-fold. Educate visitors on lifestyle changes to help protect the environment, and create a disaster-resistant community, thus reducing injuries and property damage from natural and technological hazards.

The building itself will exemplify green building techniques; green roofing, energy efficient ground source heat pumps, demonstration wind turbines and photovoltaic panels for electricity generation. Building materials will emphasize recycled content and low volatile organic compound emissions. The intention is that the building be nearly self sufficient with regard to energy and water plus have a carbon foot print of zero.
